About The AEWC Center

Research and Development Laboratory

Product development and testing assistance to composite manufacturers offering and extensive menu of ISO 17025 accredited ASTM testing for plastic materials, adhesives, structural panels and assemblies, wood products and materials and composite materials.

Ten integrated laboratories under one roof: Structural Testing Laboratory, Composite Materials Manufacturing Science Laboratory, Wood Plastic Composites Pilot Plant, Polymer and Interface Science Lab, OSB/OSL Pilot Plant, Micromechanics and NDE Laboratory, Resin Infusion Laboratory, Microscopy Laboratory, Environmental Testing Laboratory, Mechanical Testing Laboratory.

In addition to assistance to composites manufacturers, AEWC also does funded research for government agencies including Federal Highway Administration, the Office of Naval Research, the US Army, US Department of Agriculture and the National Science Foundation.

Special focus on assistance to Maine boatbuilders with testing for Coast Guard standards, product development, and technical assistance.

The industries that are serviced are boatbuilding, forest products and composites manufacturers.

The AEWC is the research hub for Maine's boatbuilding industry. Partner for Maine Built Boats, MCA and others in the North Star Alliance, a partnership to transform the workforce and economy of coastal Maine - targeted toward boatbuilding, marine trades and composites. Partner of the Maine Technology Development Centers -composites incubators - located in Greenville and Sanford.
