About Landing School

The School’s mission is to provide educational programs that effectively prepare students for careers in the marine industry. The Landing School offers 10-month-long full-time programs of education in boatbuilding, yacht design, marine systems and composites.

The School serves the marine industry by providing skilled employees who design, build and repair boats with the highest standards of quality. Accordingly, The School receives generous support and
direction from the industry in curriculum design and program implementation. Noted industry leaders regularly lecture at The School and evaluate student work.

The student-body is primarily comprised of adults who seek careers in the marine industry; however, people who are retired or taking time from formal academics find spending time at The Landing School is invaluable. Students have come from all over the United States, Canada, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa. Graduates of its programs are actively employed in the marine industry
worldwide as professional designers, builders, systems technicians, crewmembers and repairers. Some go into related fields such as sailmaking, spar design, marine surveying and yacht sales. Many start their own shops and design offices.

In 1987 The Landing School became the first school of its type to be accredited by The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT), which is listed by the United States Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency under the provisions of Chapter 33, Title 38, U.S. Code and subsequent legislation. The ACCSCT is a member of the Council on Post-secondary Accreditation.

The Landing School is incorporated in the State of Maine. It is governed by a board of trustees and is managed by an administrative staff.
