Governor John Baldacci will open the conference, outlining the Bridge Funding Initiative approved in 2008. Baldacci has announced that the Maine Department of Transportation has targeted at least $6 Million to build composite bridges in their 2010-2011 work plan.
Additionally, the recent Stimulus Package includes $111 billion for infrastructure initiatives nationwide. Maine is expected to receive about $130 million for highway and bridge infrastructure work.
Two Maine based companies will discuss their composite bridge projects at the ACG Conference.
Advanced Infrastructure Technologies (AIT), a commercial spin off of AEWC at the University of Maine, has produced composite technology as part of the Neal Bridge project in Pittsfield.
HC Bridge of Maine, a joint venture of Hillman-Composite Beams and Harbor Technologies, LLC of Brunswick, will discuss the company’s current production of composite bridge beams for the Knickerbocker Bridge project in Boothbay Harbor. The HC Bridge composite technology has been named one of the leading new technologies by Popular Science magazine, as part of its annual PopSci Invention Awards.
